Discipline Policy

Discipline policies in our program have been established to encourage and strengthen positive behavior through opportunities for the children to interact with people and materials. One of the primary goals of the program is to maximize the learning of appropriate social skills, including safety and espect for one's self and others.

Guidance is non-punitive. Positive techniques include redirection, anticipation and elimination of potential problems, positive reinforcement, encouragement rather than competition, and using the minimum possible amount of "no's" necessary. Clear and consistent rules are explained to the children.

When children exhibit challenging behaviors, the following steps will be followed:

  • Problematic behavior will be studied and documented
  • The classroom teacher will consult with the Director to discuss ways to work with the children and improve the behavior
  • The staff will request a meeting with parents to discuss and consider solutions, and to establish a timeline. Parents may be asked to agree to a consultation with an outside specialist.

Kessel Kids may refer parents to Keystone AEA for evaluation purposes. When all reasonable alternatives have been exhausted and/or it becomes clear that the child needs special help that Kessel Kids is not qualified to provide, it may become necessary to terminate daycare services for that child. Notification may be immediate; however, we will try to give adequate notification so that parents may make alternate arrangements for their childcare.
