The public system, the Howard-Winneshiek School District, consistently scores well above the state average in statewide testing. And this is in a state that takes education very seriously, leading the nation in those same test scores. The result is a highly trainable workforce where job quality is paramount and self satisfaction is a way of life.

Cresco is home to Northeast Iowa Community College center. The Cresco Center is a valuable option for people of all ages who want to take college courses close to home. Students are able to take face to face classes, ICN classes, online classes, independent study classes, or telecourses through Northeast Iowa Community College without leaving Cresco!

The Northeast Iowa Community College (NICC) Cresco Center offers year-round, day and evening, credit and continuing education classes. NICC also supports local business' training opportunities.

The NICC Cresco Center is proud of it's close relationship with the Howard Winneshiek Community School District. A large percentage of the juniors and seniors at Crestwood High School are earning college and high school credit by taking courses at the NICC Cresco Center. The community has also shown its commitment to education by providing the school district with one of the most advanced computer network systems in any school district.

Howard County Extension is part of a county, state and federal partnership bringing the resources of Iowa State University and the USDA to you.  Your local County Extension Office has research based information and education programs to help families, communities, agricultural clients, business and industry, and youth make informed decisions.

We provide information and informal educational opportunities to adults and youth on a variety of topics.

Crestwood High School is located in Cresco as part of the Howard Winnishiek School District.  Our mission is that the District and its patrons will determine the essential needs of all studenrts in order to provide a safe, challenging and rewarding learning environment so they develop the skills and understanding necessary for successful citizenship.

Kessel Kids will be a part of the complex that will also house Head Start, public pre-school for 4-5 year olds, early childhood special education and speech services and HAWC Empowerment Partnerships for Children.

Notre Dame Catholic School - "Assisting Families to Know and Share God's Love Through Quality Education"

Notre Dame is celebrating 124 years of Catholic education in Cresco.  We offer 3 and 4 year-old preschool classes as well as Kindergarten through grade 6.  Notre Dame is an Iowa Accredited School open to students of all faiths.  Our teachers are all Iowa Certified.  We provide a quality education in all core curriculum areas including Spanish and computer applications beginning in kindergarten.

The Crestwood Alternative High School provides an alternative choice for at-risk students who need assistance in completing High School.  These at risk situations include but are not limited to truancy issues, pregnant and teen mothers as well as students living on their own.  please contact Ms. Montgomerery's office at 563-547-2310.

Crestwood Jr. High offers our 235 students a very exciting and challenging selection of curriculum taught by 25 staff members.  Classes include the exploratory of arts, music, technology and agriculture; the basic courses of math, life and earth sciences, world geography, American heritage, English, reading, physical education, current events and "Be an Eleven"; and advanced studies in algebra and communications. 

We offer numerous extracurricular activities including student council, band, jazz band, chorus, chess club, art club and a junior high play.  The following sports are offfered:  football, volleyball, wrestling, basketball, track and cheerleading.  Over 90% of our students participate in one or more extra-curricular activity.   


Crestwood Elementary School

The Howard Winneshiek School District has four excellent elementary centers located in the communities of Cresco, Ridgeway, Lime Springs and Elma.

Northeast Iowa Community College Cresco Center is located in Cresco adjacent to Crestwood High School on Highway 9 East.  NICC Cresco Center offers continuing education classes, industry training, a variety of credit courses, GED classes, and day, evening and weekend classes in a variety of formats including face-to-face, online, ICN, and telecourses.

Over 85% of Crestwood seniors attend classes at NICC Cresco Center.  Also serving students from Riceville, Turkey Valley, and Fillmore Central High Schools.  We also offer a wide variety of personal interest, continuing education and small business and industry classes held in Cresco.  Nearly 100 different courses are offered each year.
